Steel structures and its Connections

In this course we are going to learn about steel structures.

Hello everyone, we are going to learn about steel structures. We know that there are different types of structures like RCC Framed structure & Steel structures. RCC Structure consists of structural elements like RCC beam, RCC Columns, RCC slabs, etc. When these RCC Structural members like column, beam are replaced by steel materials, we can call it as steel structures. Construction of steel structure is very faster than RCC Structure. RCC Structures need more time of curing after casting of concrete. Thus we can say that a structure that is assembled from various steel members of miscellaneous shapes and sizes and connected by bolting or welding or riveting and performs some function, and safely withstands the loads it is subjected to be called a steel structure. Structural steel material has been used in construction materials for well over the 20th century. Steel sections have been used today for many building applications and have become even more versatile in usage. It can be combined with other construction materials. As steel is 100 % recyclable material, it can be used in future construction also.

Steel structures have been used for many purposes like tall transmission line towers, chimneys, bridges, Industrial buildings, sheds, cranes, silos, bunkers, oil or gas storage tanks, pipe stockades, tall residential building frames, walkways, Railway over-bridges, Railway platform or bus stand shelters, or stadium roofs or simple and common structures like hand railings, balustrades, ladders, stairs, lamp posts, flag hoisting poles, Electric poles and the like.

From skyscrapers and bridges to beautiful contemporary houses, steel is used in almost every type of structure. It has become the leading building material in the construction industry because it provides the leverage of excellent durability and endurance in a structural design solution, depending upon the shape and geometry of the structure.
