Plywood

It is an engineered wood that is made by stacking several layers of wood veneers bonded together to form a sheet. Plywood is a combination of the face, core, and back. The core lies between the face and back, while the face side is visible after installation. Due to the shortage and price factor of real wood, plywood has been a popular choice in the construction industry. Plywood is a fantastic combination of lightness, strength, and flexibility. Because the benefits of plywood are enormous, many companies have started the production of soft, hard, tropical, and decorative plywood. It is used in various formats like making furniture to constructing a house including structural framework, manufacturing of doors, windows, drywall/partition wall, decor items, etc. Plywood is preferred more due to its properties like strength and stability, ease of working, cost, etc.

Laminate

It is the composite artificial material that is made up of pressing a thin layer of flat paper and plastic resins together. The top layer is printed with a pattern or colour. Base paper and decorative paper are soaked in phenolic and melamine resins. They are hard-pressed together to form a stiff laminate sheet. These papers are treated with chemical resins to impart them with strength and stiffness.

Medium Density Fibre board (MDF)

It is an engineered composite wood product which is made from residues of softwood and hardwood bonded together with the use of wax and resin under extreme pressure and heat.

Veneer

Veneer is a composition of a very thin layer of real hardwood with lower quality of wood for the base, M.D.F., or particleboard. When the veneer is applied to any surface of furniture it creates the look of wooden furniture with a lighter core. Veneers are not resistant to scratch or dent because it is a soft material, as a result, it is high on maintenance.

Particleboard

Particleboard or chipboard is commonly known and readily available material since it is made from a combination of waste materials – such as planer shavings, off-cuts or sawdust. It wood chips can be machine produced or residue of manufacturing of other wood derivatives. These chips are glued together and compressed under heat and pressed to form large boards that are dried and cut into various sizes for market forms.

Blockboard

Blockboard is one type of engineered plywood board where softwood strips are attached edge to edge and bonded together and then sandwiched between veneers of softwood, hardwood, particleboard or MDF (medium-density fibreboard), pasted under high pressure, and heat with glue. Blockboard comes in different sizes and thicknesses.
