Arches
An arch is a structure comprising a number of relatively small units such as bricks or masonry blocks which are wedge shaped, joined together with mortar, and spanning an opening to support the weight above. Arches are used as entrances or for aesthetic. Different time and place they were created defines the way they are constructed. Religion also plays a significant role as well in determining what context a type of arch is used.
Loading in an arch
An arch is a curved structure designed to carry loads across a gap mainly by compression. The compression results in weight being thrust towards the base of the arch.
